Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one that's happened to lol... I had a package leave California - fly to Salt Lake City, UT instead of to Pocatello, ID where it was supposed to go (SLC is about ~180 miles south from Pocatello) - fly back to CA, but a different spot in CA - then finally get sent to Pocatello...
Lol, there was one of these on fark the other day. It was destined for international delivery in Paris, France...and got there...before being sent back to Texas.
And then back to France.
I guess it's easy to say they suck, but really, how many packages to these carriers handle every day? Even if it's a one-quarter percent error ratio, I bet that's a hundred boxes or so.
I'm surprise they didn't leave a note on the door for you to pick it up. Don't the drivers have enough common sense not to leave a package on the front steps. Are they responsible if it gets stolen?

I know for a fact that UPS packages are insured and I believe Fedex is too. If you ship via USPS, you must purchase insurance.
Many packages have a "carrier leave if know response" or some sort of carrier release from the point of origin. He also mentioned that there was no signature capture for the package. The package was shipped the very cheapest way possible.
nope, I bought a passlode cordless trim nailer and it was shipped fedex to my house. (before I learned to ship to my work)
I had not known when it was shipped, or received a tracking number.
it gets delivered on a Friday (I happened to leave town for the weekend on that same friday)
I get back into town. after a week goes by and I didn't receive the nail gun, I looked up a tracking number and saw it was delivered on friday.... Sat on my front stoop untill it walked off.....
was it insured? Yep, but it wasn't damaged, and I couldn't prove it.
Since then, I ship EVERYTHING to my work, and use UPS when ever possible

If you shipped via USPS, you could instruct them hold packages no matter how valuable for 10 days and, when you go out of town, they'll hold your mail for up to 30 days, all for free.
Then you could go to the PO and safely retrieve your items.
I've had little lucks with any of the Courier companies. If they're not leaving it on the doorstep for any Joe to walk away with, they're charging outrageous brokerage fees for the "privilege" of using their service.
I've always had much better luck with USPS, or Canada Post.
