The 427 SOHC was introduced in 1964, designed to compete with the new Chrysler 426 Hemi in NASCAR.
However, not one was ever used for this purpose as Chrysler threatened to pull all their cars from NASCAR if Ford was allowed to use this engine.
The 427 SOHC was available at the parts counter, but...AFAIK, was never factory installed in any production cars, as there is no VIN engine code for this engine.
