No one in my area seems to know anything about
the Thompson Type power steering on my '74 1 ton
van. Everything, and I mean everything, has been replaced and the control valve still has play in
its connection to the rest of the steering after
a few miles. This is getting expensive. I don't
want to convert to manual steering, but what else can I do if the power steering replacement parts
are no good from the rebuilder? Is there any kind of update for this truck? I would be interested in any info or sources for quality reman parts since
FOMOCO no longer supports my van.
My Van is a '74 E-300 Supervan w/300 cid 6, power steering, power brakes, 3 speed standard trans.
I've found nothing on the van that I couldn't
do myself, until this damn power steering problem.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.
I've seen some exotic setups on very serious off-road rigs. They use a two-way hydraulic ram off of something like a farm inplement. Of course, you'd have to do some serious fabrication work...
