Oil Pan, and Fuel Pump for 1979 F150

If you want a book with instructions, just pickup a Chilton or Haynes manual that covers 79 pickups. Or go to the library and copy the section that you need.

I will also give you the basic rundown of how to do it. I'm not familiar with your peticular pickup, but it's done the same for all.

Fuel Pump - remove the lines from the pump (remember where the lines went for later, or draw a picture), remove two bolts that hold the pump to the motor and pull the pump straight out. The gasket may hold it tight so you may need to wiggle it or tap it loose. Clean the old gasket off the motor. Put new gasket on new pump (I usually put gasket sealer on the gaskets - some don't use anything). Install pump, there will be some pressure on the lever inside the motor, you will need to push the pump against the motor to get the bolts started. Then tighten it up and attatch the lines. Fuel lines are a pain sometimes, but be patient and they will go on.

Oil Pan - Remove the motor mount bolts, jack up motor with a hoist or hand winch hooked to something strong (loader tractor, over head beam, something like that). But you only can jack it up so far until it starts to hit the firewall or stress the exhaust. Drain oil. Remove pan bolts and wrestle pan out (this is tough sometimes because of the surrounding frame and the oil pump and sump that are inside the pan. Clean gasket off motor and pan. I chose to stick the gaskets to the block with spray gasket adhesive, and put a small globe of silicone in the corners where the rubber end gaskets meet the side gaskets. Then install the pan and put in the bolts. The bolts don't need to be very tight, I use a nut driver (screwdriver handle with socket on the end) so that I don't get them over tight. If they are too tight it will leak and then you will have to go through this again. Lower motor and bolt it down. It helps if the motor has not ran for a day or so before you do this so that you don't have oil dripping on your face the whole time.

That gives you an idea of what you are up against.

A floor jack under the harmonic balancer works well if you dont have a lift.
