Hey guys ...just doing some research for a buddy of mine that is getting ready to install new head gaskets and stud the block on his 2004 6.0L.
What is the strongest head stud kit out there?
Most people(myself included) run and like the ARP stud kit. You can go a little stronger then that. I believe H11s are a stronger kit, however, I couldn't really justify the cost of that stronger kit unless I was going to do more modifying then I have done. Unless your friend is wanting to make an all out race enigne, I would just stick with stock gaskets and the ARP stud kit and call it a day.
I agree with Tex.I believe that the only advantage of H11 is the fact they can be retorqued indefinitely, the arp only a few times so on a race motor the H11 is the way to go.
Isn't it true that Shawn Ellerton runs ARP's with stock headgaskets? If that is true, there is no need to buy the Elite head studs over the ARP's. Shawn is running 1004hp. I bought my ARP's for $398 shipped, and the Elite's run like $720.
The only difference between the two is the tensile strength. The ARP's are rated at 220,000 psi, and the Elites at 240,000 psi. But the block is only rated at 220,00 psi. I just think the Elite are overkill and unnecessary...

Yes Shawn is running ARP's and stock head gaskets. They arent Elites studs, Elite sells them. H-11 are strong by strength I use them in my truck. I talk to Shawn alot thats all he's running.

He is not running stock gasket at 1000 hp?The above post of mine quotes it as a hypermax fire ring gasket,I can't see a stock gasket holding a thousand horsepower.

It can't. Most people make the swith to hypermax when they start pushing close to 600 hp. It might be able to handle around 600, but that's were people seriously think of different gaskets and I would too. He has got to have something else there to support it. Stock gaskets are good, but they aren't that good.
Fire ring gasket? That sounds beefy. Please tell me more. What's needed to run these gaskets?
What's the ultimate goal of this truck? Fire ring gaskets are alot of effort and you have to make sure that the install is damn perfect or else your doing it again. Stock gaskets have give and take. You don't do it right with stockers your still having to go back in there, but they have more leeway then fire ring.
If your buddy is just studing the block(which is all that you've mentioned in this thread), I wouldn't worry with spending the money on H-11s and fire ring gaskets. Unless he is going to with a turbo that's bigger then 66mm and Stage III injectors, he isn't going to need all that. ARPs and stock gaskets are a proven combination for more then 97% of the 6.0 population out there. Now I might change my mind after I find out what his ultimate goal with the truck is, but there is a very small population of 6.0 trucks out there that really fit the bill of needing this heavier stuff.
Sorry. I should have been more specific. He is a gear head just like us and will probably install a custom tune w/ larger turbo and injectors in the near future.
