Question New Jersey Inspection

I have an 05 Excusion with a 10" lift and 40" tires. Mostly stock 6.0 Liter Diesel except for Banks exhaust and larger air box. I am concerned that it may not go thru the tough N.J. Motor Vehicle Inspection.

Is my lift to high? Should I put my stock factory wheels and tires back on? And I'm hearing something about a stability check, meaning will the truck fall over do to the higher center of gravity because of the lift.

Can I just register the truck over 10,000lbs and try for a self inspection?

Thanks, Tom.

Lift Laws - Suspension Lifts, Body Lifts, Ride Height

If this is to be trusted you are out of luck buddy.
You might get away with it if you put on real smalltires like golf cart tires or maybe skateboard wheels.
Its kind of hard to hide a 10" lift.

I have to assume the stability test is, get it up to speed and jerk the wheel in a scary fashion to see if you can flip it.

You are going to have to go take the tilt test. Has far as the 10K registration and self inspect that goes buy the manufactures data label on the B pilar if the manufacturer does not state vehicle weight over 10K then you run the risk of a ticket for failure to inspect and possible impound for not having a tilt test. Also a second note if you are in NJ now and registered in the state with the lift you are already illegal.

NJ lift laws are by the gvw for how much lift you can have. and yes youll have to go through a tilt test but be aware!!!! my buddy wanted to inspect his mud truck because he was tired of towing it around and when he did the test it rolled on its side. he got fined and had to pay for everything!!! just letting you know

Two differant tilt tests.
One is some rally or something, and the other is some bus company in england.
Dont know how many degrees of tilt they are looking for but, these are both in the 30's.

No you cant register it heavy for self inspection and even if you self inspect you are subject and responsible to meet all safety requirements. At a 180 bucks a pop I don't think that it would be wise to try to circumvent the inspection system. I would take my chance with the tilt test and do it right. If your lift is solid you might just pass it. You don't want to get pulled into one of them there DMV roadside checkpoints that pop up throughout the state.
