Electric Fuel

I've been tossing around the idea of going to electric fuel. My mech pump is starting to leak a good deal now to the point that I boost it up pretty good it will slip the clutch.

So what is the best system to get? I'm not crazy about paying $1k for a setup, but I want something thats going to last. I'd think about doing a DIY kit, but does anybody have all of the part numbers for everything?

you're going to get a lot of different opinions on this. Diesel Site and Beans both have good setups but you're paying 1k to get it. I did my own and spent about half that and it works just fine. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...onversion.html there is a link to an old thread. I used same stuff this guy has. You can use different filters and maybe save a little more. With the DIY kit you can get filters that can be bought local as well and not have to wait for them. Took me about 6 hrs to install everything. And now I have room for a dual HPOP pumps when it comes to that point. Cleans up the valley

if you can afford to go ahead and do electric fuel, do it now. i will never have another 7.3L w/ out a regulated return system. and i would even drop the $1200 on the CPR system again over building my own just to keep from going through the trouble of finding all the stuff. only thing i wish Bob would do is send a bigger pump w/ them. i have the instructions from my CPR system and i think it has a list of parts in there that is in the kit. i will look when i get home.

What will the CPR system handle power wise? Is that your concern with the smaller pump or is there something else?

the pump is my only concern. Since it is a stock SD pump it can handle up to around 238cc of fuel.. thats it. mine will drop some pressure if i just free rev it nice and hard. don't know what it does if i'm on it going down the highway though. i can easily swap it out with a big fuel lab pump though. So yes my concern is the pumps ability to handle those injectors that i'm gonna get Jim to build me. i changed my mind on them again though. haha

hahaha what are you going to go with now? How much does a fuel lab pump run? Would you better off going with a system from beans with a twin pump set-up or would there be no real cost benefits

they don't use a twin pump system anymore. they just put in a bigger single pump. i just like my CPR b/c it uses a fuel cooler and i like the filtration system on it.

I like the beans system.

I really wish Neal would talk about the system more though so we have the skinny on it.

I thought about doing my own, but I dont want the hastle of coming up with the parts.

As far as i've heard from neal, the beans system is an easy install.

again with the double posts... mannnnn... i'm sure the beans system is close to the same as my CPR is except mine utilizes a fuel cooler and different filters. mine has a Dahl 2 micron pre filter and 100 micron aeromotive inline stainless steel cleanable post filter.

I'm building my own within the next month or so. I built my own Regulated Return for my old SD and it cost a couple hundred $$ less than buying a pre-made kit. I had the time to round up all the components and it went together really well. I'm going to use the same setup on my '95 but also add an AirDog and a Fuelab pump. By doing it myself, I figure I'll be into my entire electric fuel setup for under $1500.

Just bought a new digital camera today so it'll be getting used under there!

the CPR and beans system are both under $1500.... Also i hope your swapping to a single fuel tank if your planning to use an AD2... the AirDog's weren't designed to be used with dual tanks and a regulated return b/c the AirDog has a return that goes back to the fuel filler. so you will always have fuel returning to that one tank in turn overflowing it when you fill up. just a thought. just do the single fuelab pump and get u a Dahl 2 micron or something for the pre filter and whatever your choice filter is for the post filter.

Yeah, they're both under $1500, but you don't get an AirDog and Fuelab pump with them.

As for the AirDog, I'm not getting the AD2. Doing the original AD along with the sep fuelab pump. Still going to run both tanks as well. What I'm going to do is use a fuel y-block to connect the AD return line into the factory return line pre selector valve. That way the AD returns to whichever tank I'm using, just like the engine will.

A raptor pump???? not sure of what your calling the original AD. good idea on the Y block, but why would you even need an AD and a fuelab pump??? you can run just the big fuelab pump and have enough fuel to run a set of 400cc injectors. your going wayyyyy overkill brother. LOL

I'm always in the overkill boat.

But the AirDogs are not for our trucks.

i'd stick with simple.
