I am removing my broken 302 and I want to replace with a 351W so that I have a torqueyer engine w/o haveing to swap the tranmission. I converted a 3 sp 300-6 to a c-6 302 so I want to leave the existing tranny and new driveline alone. I can't find any header applications listed for the 351W in this year. It wasn't ever stock in the 73-79 f-series correct? I have been seeing references to adapting cleveland heads to Windsor blocks. does this mean that a header for a 351M will bolt right up to a 351W?
I may be wrong, but isn't the cleveland/modified family a wider, taller engine? Thus, with cleveland heads on a 351W block, the headers would be lower and narrower, possibly causing clearance problems with your transmission.
I noticed you had changed your transmission from
a 3 speed column to an automatic. Did you put an
automatic steering column in or just put your shifter on the floor?

I had to replace my 3-speed shifter column because I also converted from armstrong steering to power, and that requires a different column. I used a column shift because it is the most common steering column option and I value having the floorboard clear for third passengers. I then had to find another one a few months later because the internal shifter castings broke inside the column. converting was relatively simple and hassle free. If you consider that 73-79 f-series had column shift 3sp,auto and floor shift 4 sp in both power and nonpower steering, that means there are six different columns. The difference between power and nonpower steering columns is the length. I originally wanted to retain the 3-sp, but I couldn't easily locate an appropriate flywheel and I found that the 3 sp had a bad input shaft. I figured locating a power steering column with a column shifter would be a hassle so I gave up and converted to automatic. Using the c-6 smallblock tranny required an expensive driveline rebuild and shorten, as well as drilling new holes in the frame for the tranny mount a coulple inches to the rear.
