GPR?

Could a Glow plug relay go bad and still pull in? Makes a click when turned on. I have been having startring problems when it get cold. The truck just cranks and cranks and cranks. It a 96 F250 with 127,000. I can't see all the glow being bad at once. It has only started this in the last few weeks.

How long are you letting them warm up before you start they stay on for a long time after the light on the dash goes out let them warm up a little longer before you try and start it you will see on your amp gauge in the dash when they are on and when they shut off

How long do you leave the vehicle on "ON" before you start it?
When you turn it "ON" you will hear a "click" when the WTS light goes off..that is not the GPR disengaging. You can check it by turning it "ON" and watch your battery/volt meter. After about 2 minutes it should bounce up (GPR disengaging). If you see it bounce up...it should be good. Could be bad GP's (like mine). If you can get some codes, that would help.

Ok well I'll try that next time I start it. It not my DD yet till I sell my F150. Hopfully tomorrow. It wait for the light to go off then try to start. I will wait longer and watch the voltage meter. It just seem I never had to wait that long before!

The click has nothing to do with the operation of the gpr. It will still click even if it is bad. The best way to check if it is bad is with a multimeter.

yes the contacts can burn up in them, they will still click but no power going through it. the last one I changed for a customer has almost 200,000 miles on it before it failed. (I performed surgery on it to see how bad it was) I am at 198,000 on my original gpr, no problems yet! having said that I probably just jinxed my self and should order one to throw behind the seat!
they are simple to by pass with a screwdriver across the 2 big terminals hold it on for 45 seconds to a minute and try firing it up.

I tested it with a test light. The light would light on the non covered big terminal when the key is on. This would tell me it good. I was woundering if I was gettin power from one of the little wires?

Doug, what does the meter do? if it "clicks up" after 2 minutes (about...wait 3 to be sure)...if it does it would appear to be good. ALSO, just b/c the GPR appears to be good does not mean the GP's are getting the juice. Once we can assure your GPR is good, we can troubleshoot from there.

Mine when it went bad, the WTS light came on as usual, when it went out it would not start. I pluged it in and in 30 minutes it started up. To test GPR, use a volt meter, large bolt on one side will always read 12 volts or better if batteries are good. The other large bolt will read 12 volts when the key is turned on, for aprox 2 minutes, this will tell all about the GPR.

FYI, They are only about $25.00 at your friendly International Garage, $79.00 ish at Ford and Advance Auto.

Good Luck
