I blew the engine in my 93 about a year ago. While browsing Craigs List I saw an ad for a 351 Clevland for 40.00. It says it has a bad crank. I don't what year it is or anything else.
I figure there has to be more wrong with it, since a crank don't go bad all by itself. So I have a few questions.
1. What else could I expect to find, damage wise?
2. Whats the difference between a Clevland and a Winsor?
3. Will an old engine bolt up and be compatable with the computer in my 93?
Well I think that's all the questions I have at the moment. Right now it's just an idea to replace my engine and get my truck back on the road.
The cleveland is in a different engine family and isn't compatable with the EFI system in your truck, you'll have a much easier time rebuilding the motor you have or finding another 351w to install.
On a side note the 351m is often mistaken for a 351c. They look very similar but the 351m was the only one installed in trucks, the 351c was a car only motor and was also only produced for a few years in the late '60.
It is my plan to buy another 351w. But at around 2200.00 for a new rebuilt one or 650.00 from a local junkyard is all I can find, and right now way out of my budget. I just saw that 351C there and was wondering, since it was so cheap. I'm going to pass on it.
Kem, I threw a rod or something, put a hole in the oil pan.
I don't know what happened, but one day I was driving and the truck started acting up. I pulled over and checked things over, when i pulled the dipstick out I saw thick black goo. so I called a friend to come out and bring me some oil. I drained as much crap out as I could and put the new oil in. Then drove it home.
The next day I drove it to an oil change place and had them change out the oil and filter. The truck was fine for a week. Then it threw the rod.
That was about a year ago. Now my truck is sitting in my friend's field, til I can get another engine. in the mean time I have been unemployed for just over a year now, so funds are tight. If I can get my truck going, I can started up my mowing bussiness,as I need the truck to tow my 20' trailer. My 92 just won't tow it.
well being your situation i would locate a complete wrecking yard low mileage motor and do a 1 for 1 swap. you will be money ahead in time since this can be done in a day may be 2 max and you will more then likely get more then a couple years out of it with good maintenance. I went this route years ago on my previous bronco and was very pleased. get creative, i am sure there are ways to make some bucks to get this changed out.
A couple months back, I found an engine at a local wrecking yard for 650.00 out of a 96 E-250. I'm hoping when I have the money it will still be there., I highly doubt it though.
thats a decent price. i paid $800 for a 95 5.8 out of an F250 with 80Kmiles on it. remember you dont have to stick with a bronco/f150 5.8. also look in F250/F350's from 88-97. if there is a 5speed manual bolted to it grab that also. especially if you can get it cheap as they are worth some money.
Well good news, at least I hope anyways. I found a low milage engine with tranny and transfer case out of a wrecked 93, for 500.00. I'm going to look at it on Saturday.
most places should give you at least a 30day warrantee on the motor etc.. i would just replace the oil pump/water pump/tstat and any gaskets/hoses/belts at this time. much easier while motor is out.
