I don't know if anyone can help me. Every extreme cold morning when I go to start the vehicle it will sound like it is misfiring. It will run like this for several minutes before it smooths out. I recently changed the spark plugs and wires and this did not help.
I've also tried a dry gas treatment, still no luck.
I have read it could be the IAC valve idle air control, needs cleaning or replacement. I tried to find it on my 02 Explorer V6 but couldn't locate it yet.
ah yes. I've cleaned this on my 89 300ci F-150. This is located easily on the top of the engine for the inline six. But nothing is simple on the V6's.
I did some research on the IAC valve and everyone states to check the hose leading to it. It may have a crack in it. Mine is more intermittent though. Maybe cold weather will affect something? They really didn't locate this.
The IAC could cause high or low idle, but shouldn't make it act like it has a misfire unless there is a hole in the valve portion or it has a bad gasket. Since you're talking about a hose, I think you're referring to the PCV valve. The other common "check the hose" item would be the DPFE sensor.
Since yours seems affected by cold weather, I'd suggest you check the function of your Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor and clean the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor which also contains the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. Both could impact the air-fuel ratio and contribute to roughness.
