Chances are if the oil cooler is plugged the EGR cooler is leaking. So the best way to go about diagnosing that would be to point the nose of the truck on a downaward slope, pull the egr valve and see if the intake is wet.
The intake cleaning was what they did with mine first, it lasted about 3 months before the choo choo train amounts of smoke came out the tail pipe.
Sarge
Well, I am not getting anywhere near 'choo choo train' amounts of smoke out the tail - just some at start and hard throttle. I guess I can pull the new EGR Valve and see what is going on. Idles fine, cruises pleasantly, not losing coolant - yet. BUT, before all this work and software updates, it wouldn't blow any smoke, even at WOT - no matter how hard I tried!!
I think I am going to get the ScanGaugeII, it reads EOT and ECT, and reads DCT's, and clears them. Good value for the buck. That way I can have a little bit more insight as to what is going on.
Thats a good choice, also the edge insight isnt bad either. I went with the Dash Daq, but I am able to buy parts through my buisness and write it off so I had the opportunity to buy it and I jumped at it.
Good luck and I hope you get it resolved. I wasnt loosing much coolant either, but man did she smoke.
