Thumbs down Ready to shoot my SD

I am so efin' pissed off I'm ready to unload my .45 into the engine block of my PSD. Well the PSD has nothing to do w/ it, its either the transfer case or the tranny.
Its been freezing rain all day here in Philadelphia w/ like 4 inches of the stuff on the ground. I went to the gym earlier and the truck seemed a lil sloppy but I just figured it was the frozen rain making awkward groves in the road, not that bad. Now I just came back from the pizza shop and it took FOREVER... When I pulled up to the shop (which is at the bottom of a hill) the truck seemed again a lil sloppy, but its when I started to pull away (up hill) the truck just spun its wheels. Yes I had it in 4 high on the way there and put it in 4 low just before I pulled away. With a 30+ grand truck I should be able to plow through the streets w/ no problem but instead piece of crap cars where passing me on the way home as I fish-tailed all the way down the street. I barley made it home, when I got in the driveway I stuck my head out the window and noticed that only the back wheels were spinning. I never had a problem w/ my SD and thought I was one of the lucky ones, haha jokes on me..

If I had the money I would have shot it already, guess I got to take it to the dealer tomorrow.
Anyone else have this problem before?

Sorry hear that........its kinda how trucks just do in the slick stuff, either put about 300lb's in the bed when its slick or try some new tires.

the only thing I see that doesnt sound right is that you put it in 4 low....4 high is good enough for driving on ice. 4 low is gonna put way too much torque to the gound and on ice that will actually hurt more than it helps.

Yeah but when I depress the throttle the back wheels spin, kick up snow like 30 feet behind the truck, the speedo and tac are going crazy, turbo is whining, but the front wheels dont do anything? w/ the weight of the PSD the front end should be able to grip, right?

I dont know if shootin' it is the answer to this issue. It should be noted that I do not live anywhere near snow but if I were you I would go outside right now and manually engage your locking hubs and take her for a spin. I bet you find it works just fine. Maybe your truck hates cold weather? I know I do (haha)

Seriously though, maybe the snow/freezing azz temps made the vacuum lines to the hubs sort of decide to take the day off. Check it out first before you shoot to kill. It is a good truck and dont let one little issue make you think otherwise. If only your rear wheels are turning of course it will be a little sloppy as there is no weight back there so to speak. Take a deep breath and try again. I bet you find it works fine again and the sky is not falling after all. Good luck my friend....

I dont know.......before you take it to the dealer go out and find a place where you can do some testing and make sure it wasnt just a fluke...I mean like go find a hill and try to drive up it in all modes 4 hi, 4 low, 2 hi etc... Manually lock your hubs and try 4wd again. Thats all I can say. Personnaly I live in Montana and I live up on a hill and as long as I had it in 4 Hi it went up no problem with it being icy and snowy. So who knows why your truck was just fishtailing up that hill...some how you must not have been getting power to the front wheels.

Upon reading your last reply that they are not "manual" hubs I beg to differ. You apparently have ESOF and I can guarantee that you most certainly DO have a manual hub that you can engage if your ESOF fails for some reason. They all do.

And how do I manually engage the hubs?

On the front wheels there should be a provison in the hub where you can either select "Auto" or "Manual" by turning the inner part of the hub. One question, Do you have after market wheels? or are they the stockers?

It is REAL EZ keeno. The hubs have very clear writing which states Auto or Lock. Turn them BOTH to LOCK and then set the ESOF to 4W High. I just went out and looked at mine to verify this is/was true but you may also want to read your owners manual as well. It is a good read and can be done while you get you blood pressure back to normal with a beer or two (haha) Good luck!
