Dusty, went up to The Zone a few minutes ago. They sold me a heli-coil kit ( which I hope I don't have to use ). Just want to double check, know you said 14mm, hope it was a 1.25 pitch, they said that's the only one they had.

set the spark plug threads against the tap threads, and see if they're the same, if not, don't tap the hole, you will creat a bigger problem than you already have. you shouldn't need the helicoil, you have a cast iron head, no aluminum.

Dusty, didn't want the heli-coil kit, but they said that was the only way to get the tap. Probably postpone that till Mon., maybe Sun. after church. Going to be gone all day tomorrow & didn't think of comparing the plug to the tap. Haven't even opened the kit yet.
helicoil tap is phisically too large. the drill is larger than the exhisting hole, then the tap is for putting in the helicoil, which the spark plug fits on the inside of the hole. take that crap back, and get your money back, then do like bud says, and scoot over to sears, and get a spark plug tap. take the plug with you to make sure to get the right size. I think 14 mm. but take the plug with you incase I'm wrrrrrrrrong. wow that was hard to say.
Whats the chances of them having a 14 mm tap? I order crap like that from Mcmaster-carr or msc. If you're just cleaning up the threads you could get a rethreader which don't cut new thread just chase old ones. I bought a whole rethreader kit from Snap-on metric and std. cousre and fine thread with 2 thread files. Best 75 bucks ever spent.

Of course you guys live where your Sears may actually be worth a hoot. I gave up on ours unless I want to buy a worthless 3/8 ratchet or something like that.

he's trying to get a spark plug back into the motor, someone was a real mechanic, and cross threadded it, his skill level is a 2, and his tool collection is from the dollar store, but I give him an A, because he will get right in there, and go for it.
