Help Please. The trans was hard shifting between 3rd and 4th/od before the pan was dropped. Fluid smelled a bit burnt and fluid was a little dark so a change was in order. changed trans filter on 88' 302 AOD. when torquing down the three bolts on the filter, over torqued and broke the head off the one closest to the filter pick up tube. Not sure what to do. I figure small metal shavings and transmissions dont go together so I am not going to try to remove it myself. If I get a professional to do it, what would be the approx. cost? Do I need to get it fixed immedietly or is it gonna leak and effect shifting? Dont have much money cause times are tough. any suggestions would be great. thanks.
SOMETIMES, when a bolt head has broken off, the load on the threaded portion is eliminated. If that is the case, SOMETIMES, the bolt will back out easily if you can get any kind of grip on it. (I had one in a motorcycle clutch basket--it came out using a dental pick type tool)
How much is sticking out?
Do you have or can you get a pick tool? Can you get to it if you get a tool like that?
The next step is drilling it out and using an ez-out. Cautions here:
You were right 85e150six4mtod. All I needed was the left haded drill bit and just the motion of it backed it out enough to get some vice grips on it. Thanks for your input. Shop wanted $90 just to look at it. Thanks again.
