Well its official I just purchased a used 2004 F250 with a 6.0 PSD. the engine is a 2004 "the ICP is located on the valve cover". I got a deal on it because its blowing white smoke "Coolant" I am not 100% sure yet if its the EGR cooler or the heads leaking... When the engine is cold it runs fine but when it heats up it starts blowing white smoke. either way I'm planning to replace the stock head bolts with head studs and new gaskets. I plan to delete the EGR system as well... I have been following posts for a few weeks and have come up with a list of mods to do while I redo the heads.
Head Studs
Gaskets
Oil cooler rebuilt
EGR delete
STC fitting on HPOP and new orings on oil rail dummy plugs
Reroute CCV crank case vent
Coolant by-pass filter
Pyro Meter
Tuner not sure what brand
Does anyone have any other ideas? was the STC fitting a problem in 2004? What kind of preformance head gaskets are available I'm looking to upgrade from stock...
failed cooler to start. failed head gaskets/ head bolts will push coolant out of the deags tank not the tail pipe.
a failed egr cooler can do either but most often leaks in to the exhaust.

So failed heads never leak into the combustion chamber?
The 03 and 04 dont have the STC fittings. The 05s and up to. My truck is actually in the shop right now because the STC fitting came off the HPOP. Also i dont know how familiar you are with the 6.0s, but dont forget, Maintenance is KEY. Changin your eng oil every 5k instead of 7.5k, using the right motor oil, using synthetic to prevent stiction, flushing your coolant every 50k instead of 75-100k, changing your fuel filters every 10k etc. You take care of your maintenance and your 6.0 will take care of you..

see this is were the misconception of failed headgaskets comes in. Ive done more headgaskets then I care to think about. I have yet to see a failed headgasket. the bolts strech under boosted conditions and vent to the cooling system. so beinging that cyclinder pressure is greater then cooling system pressure so the leak does not flow coolant in to the cyclinders.
if we were taking about just a headgasket issue then yes it could.
If I do the EGR delete and clear up the "White smoke Issue" When I change the head studs I should remove the heads and replace the head gaskets or is this unnecessary?
ya i know nothing is apart. But when you add studs youll have to tear apart the motor and since the motor will be apart why not change them because they aint that expensive..
There is a big debate about the "one at a time" approach to installing the ARP studs. Several have done it this way. I have not searched the archives for anyone who has done it that way and subsequently had a failure. The ones that have been successful have stated so on this forum. DSMHH has a great writeup on this forum on how he did it. You are wise to replace the oil cooler when you delete the egr system. I did not realize how important that was. 18000 miles later, major oil cooler failure. My 04 has all the mods you are contemplating plus a 4 inch turbo back MBRP exhaust. I run a SCT X3 tuner with Innovative Diesel tunes. I will be monitoring the vitals with an Edge Insite I received yesterday. I was going to do gauges but after researching the alternatives here I went with the Insite. I bought everything except the Insite from Adam at First Coast Diesel. He will put a great package together for you. I am very satisfied with his service. Good luck with your truck
Any suggestions on a brand of head gasket? I'm looking for something better than stock...
What's wrong with the stock gaskets? They're not the failure...the TTY bolts are. Fix the sort coming and you're good to hammer on the skinny pedal. If/when you have the motor apart doing the studs...some folks swear by having the heads checked for flatness. That's up to you.
