accelerator pump
After reading another thread from a few days ago, about someone's hesitation beinging caused by their accelerator pump, I've decided that I must have the same problem. My question is: if I were an accelerator pump, what would I look like, and where would I be located on the carb?

If you were an accelerator pump you would be in the drivers side front corner of the carb, on most carbs I have seen anyway location may vary. You would look like a cylinder about 2 inches long with a spring on top and a rubber gasket on the bottom. There would be a lever type arrangement on the top that is actuated by the throttle linkage.
Did you do the functional check on the pump. Look into the carb bore with the engine turned off and open the throttle all the way by moving the linkage you should see 2 streams of gas spray into the carb, if you dont the pump is dead.
It can be easily replaced. I usually get a carb rebuild kit and if you go slow pay attention and follow the directions included in the kit it is quite easy.

I/my boy friend have a 79 Ford with a 351 cleveland 2100 2 barrel. I am needing an accelerator pump, a starter that will FIT and a carb rebuild kit. Any suggestions out there on cheap parts and how to do it once Ive got em???? Would love the help

acc pump
picture of my recently rebuilt carburetor. accelerator pump circled in red. got the rebuild kit at napa, on top of your carb should be a small metal tag that has the numbers on it. write down those numbers and take them to napa, they should be able to fix you up with a rebuild kit.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the tag is gone off the top of your carb though. All it takes is one idiot previous owner.

BTW that's for my '74. But you should be able to look it up for your particular year. Any of the parts stores should have them cheap enough. It MIGHT be the same kit but it might not be. You'd be wise to double check.
