However, when changing the filter it is a good idea to fill the new filter with Diesel Kleen or similar, gets the system primed quicker and helps clean the injection system.
With the new filter fitted you will still need to bleed any air out. Depress the core in the shraeder valve at the filter head and crank the engine untill solid fuel comes out with no air. Then crank again to bleed air out of the injector pump. Sometimes helps to crack open a pipe nut at one of the injectors while cranking. Once the air is out the engine will start.
Do not crank on the starter for more than about 20secs at a time and allow about 2min between cranks for the starter to cool.
The fuel system on these trucks is fairly simple. How much fuel have you got in the tank? Sometimes the end of the fuel pickup tube can break off or crack and the pump can`t get fuel when the tank is below 1/4 full.
The fuel lift pump is a mechanical one at the front of the engine so needs the pipe work to be good from there back to the tank or it is possible the lift pump has failed.
i had the truck running earlier today.i drive it everyday.it was fine till i changed the filter.it has 3/4 of a tank of fuel in it.it's really cold where i'm at and was told the fuel may have gummed up.but like i said,it was running earlier.
