What's wrong with this?
We're re-doing a '69 Grande convertable. We've got 2 vin/warranty tags. A black and silver tag about 1" by 3" that I know for a fact goes on the drivers door(I took it off the old one). We've also got a tag that's about 2" by 3" with stamped numbers, but no printed stuff on it. Also has some little star and moon shapes punched out of it.
The guy who took this tag off the car(a year ago)is no longer with us, and he didn't mark where this tag is supposed to go.
I say it should be on the cowl/firewall, but my boss disagrees.
Any idea where it goes?

Buck Tag.

This plate has the VIN, codes for the BODY, COLOR, TRIM, DATE, DSO, AXLE, TRANS.
The VIN plate is located on the left (drivers) side corner of the dash, visible thru the windshield. The VIN plate has the VIN only.
The VIN was originally stamped on the upper flat portion of the left fender inner apron where it butts up to the fender. It's visible when the hood is raised.
If this stamped VIN is missing, the fender apron has been replaced, which is quite common on any 1965/73 Mustang.
The Buck Tag was used by assembly line workers to ID which parts were to be installed on the assembly line. This tag is located on the firewall, but where exactly, I cannot recall.
Give Bo a call at Mustang Service Center in North Hollywood CA (818-765-9266), he will know. Bo is a former Ford partsman, he knows more about these "late model" Mustang's, than I do.
I worked for Chevy as a tech for almost 20 years, and my boss is mostly a Chevy guy, too, so we were both clueless in this case. I had a hunch that the tag went on the top of the firewall, but wasn't for sure. Vince had no idea at all where it went.
And you know what, no I haven't been around long, and that's why I love people like Bill who correct me, the one's who tell the history as they remember it, gives me a little sneak peak as to what it was like in the 20s 30s 40s 50s... and so on. Every bit of history I know from before my time (And even from some my life) I have either been told or read. so someone's bound to make mistakes, lol
Wow really? Unibody cars have no chassis? How is that? Yeah, the chassis and body are integrated, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Do you have a unit-body section in your parts books for mustangs where the chassis section goes? I've owned/own 16 falcons and mustangs, and I have yet to run into a chassis part that did not interchange between similar model years. Face it, a mustang is a falcon with a different body and a few other differences.....

A few differences? How do you define few?Are any of the interior parts the same? How about the wiring? Is the steering column/steering wheel/horn ring and steering box the same?
How about the radio and heater? The answer is...no to all of these questions.
There's one heck of a lot of differences between the two vehicles.
Ford did not sell complete bodies, all the individual parts were sold separately.
Falcon/Mustang: The chassis parts, consisting of the front suspension and the powertrain will basically interchange, the body parts will not interchange.
The A/T used in all 1964 Falcon's is the 2 speed F-O-M. Falcon's were not available with the C4...or the 289 until 1965.
C4's, 289's were available from day one in Mustang's.
I own two 64 falcons, an early futura 260/t-10 and a late sptint with 289/toploader. I've seen at least 50 64 sprints the same as mine, some with autos, but all 289s and the badges on the sides. Are you saying all those are not original? I would be surprised at that, but I guess it's possible. I wounder what runs higher pressure, my air compressor or your BP?? LOL
