The Headlamps Are Inoperative With Autolamps On
Normal Operation
When the ambient level has reached a point (determined by the internal programming of the vehicle security module), 2 internal relays are energized to supply power to the exterior lamps. Circuit 196 (DB/OG) supplies power to the internal headlamp relay, which in turn supplies power to circuit 15 (RD/YE) when energized.
Possible Causes
Circuit 15 (RD/YE) open
Circuit 196 (DB/OG) open

PINPOINT TEST H: THE HEADLAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE WITH AUTOLAMPS ON
Test Step Result / Action to Take
H1 CHECK CIRCUIT 196 (DB/OG) FOR AN OPEN
Ignition OFF.
Disconnect: Vehicle Security Module C3008a.
Measure the voltage between vehicle security module C3008a-1, circuit 196 (DB/OG), harness side and ground.
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
GO to H2.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
H2 CHECK CIRCUIT 15 (RD/YE) FOR AN OPEN
Place the headlamp switch in the headlamps on position.
Measure the voltage between vehicle security module C3008a-9, circuit 15 (RD/YE), harness side and ground.
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
GO to H3.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
H3 CHECK FOR CORRECT VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE OPERATION
Disconnect all vehicle security module connectors.
Check for:
corrosion
pushed-out pins
Connect all vehicle security module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new vehicle security module. REFER to Section 419-10. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
