OK, so I have a new laurance tinted slider, to replace the old slider. And The laurance gasket oem for 73-96 f series trucks Part # wb1158. We tried soap string rope and couldn't get the damn thing in. Ended up tearing the gasket on the inside. I don't know whats up with this, but I hear this is supposed to be easy??? so looks like I'll need a new gasket any tips on installing these??

I would give Laurance a call and tell them your problem. It could be the wrong gasket or a gasket that is oversized and defective. I have seen gaskets that were an inch too long.
I have not seen any of those in person. It looks very nice! I am sorry for the trouble you are having. My father did this with his windows back in the day. The soapy water is great and the cord in the deep pocket of the gasket is good. One other thing was he always had one person pushing in on the window and he was on the inside guiding the gasket into place as he pulled the cord.
On a side note, can you tell me why you switched from the OEM slider window, if you did? I will be trying to install my stock slider window window soon and as soon as I get some good instructions, I will forward to you. I am also going to do a do it yourself install guide after, since I can't find one that is sufficient for my needs.
Lastly, the gaskets can be of differing qualities. I would spend the money to get as close to OEM as possible, such as from Dennis Carpenter, who is also a sponsor on here. They shut down today due to a snow storm, but the people are great and will be open on Monday! And to avoid tearing another, I bet a good glass tint shop could help you out for not too much! I'll be watching your thread...
I had a hell of time with mine about a year ago. Had to cuss a lot, take a lot of breaks and use some wd-40. Got a lil tear on the inside and I swore it was too big but once it finally went in I realized it was just right
FWIW,
I bought a slider like the one you have (same mfr.) for an '88 Ranger S truck.
I had the same trouble you did.
By the time the slider was in, the gasket was intact but the blacked out alum frame required black touch-up in several spots.
When I replace the OEM slider in the '76, I'm going to pay to have it done by a pro.
Sorry to hear of the problems but I knew what you're dealing with and they are NOT a simple job.

I never knew the 2 different types of gaskets were actually different, might be good to know for the future. I've mis-matched tons of em....never had one leak. I have noticed that the bottom corners sometimes don't fit quite right, but never had a problem. I got a tinted one I pulled out of a 78 that I put in my 86. just rattles a little more, cuz it has more miles on it! lol
I always take the back window out of every truck I get my hands on. so when you break one it really doesn't matter, I mean It only takes 20 minutes to change it. you can pop em' out real easy by yourself, but installation is WAY easier w/ 2 people!

Yep, you have mismatched them. I found out they were different by trial and error myself. That and the different Ford part numbers between the two made it all too clear they are different. They are only slightly different, but it does make for that irritating difference you mention above in bold.

After you do a couple it's a simple job, especially with two experienced people. A novice will find it a chore.
