I'm wondering if you guys can tell me if a 351 Performer intake would be any better than the stock 351HO iron manifold. For the 300 plus bucks, would it be worth it? Going to freshen up my 86 351HO engine with a set of E7TE heads and some Hooker long tube headers. No hot rod, just want a little more torque. I have a new 600 Holley also. I heard on some other forum that the 302HO manifold was the same design as the Performer 302 and there was very little difference in performance.
Build or modify with a specific power band in mind. The aluminum intake you mention (performer) has served me well for over 13 yrs in a 1ton crew 4x. Aside from the duraspark II my rig is all pre emissions though. My tri Y headers made out to be a great addition to a lowend power producing combo.
As far as the very little performance difference that may be noted goes, Keep in mind that the whole package has to work together when completed. The stock pieces that you mention are all great solutions. The iron you mention can be port matched to the heads and extrude honed for great performance gains with all the stock type bolt placements and required emission related accommodations. Polished, light , aluminum wins in many respects every time though.
The mods you mention seem a bit hot rodish at any rate. A thumper cam and higher compression is all thats missing from the menu. The new heads will wake it up a bunch. A new cam while your in there would too.
I don't mean to antagonize, really. Best wishes
