differences

are there any real differences between 73-75? i'm looking to buy a f100 and i see a few in the paper that range between 73-75. i'm not too familar with dents. i wanted to keep the years under 75 so i don't have to get it smogged.

They're virtually identical, the only difference that comes to mind is the 73 will have points (if original) and the 74-75 will have electronic ignition.

In California anything '76 and newer has to be smogged.

Believe it or not (I didn't until my friend proved it to me) the side badges are slightly in front... At least between the 73 and 75. It's a small detail that often goes unoticed by even the biggest ford fans unless you have to Fords next to each other.

And there is still talk of rolling it back to 1965 or 1960. The current economic crisis has curtailed talks about it for the moment. They have already started on some of the diesels etc... So make sure what you get hasn't been screwed with too much, and can be smogged in the future if need be. (Friendly advise)

As for the differences between 1973-1975, it's mostly options, color choices, and slight wiring differences in the instrument cluster and cab. Tail-lamp and front turn signal lamps are different as well. starting 1974 model year and serial #T00001

i live in california. there are plenty of old ford trucks here but most of them are trying to sell them for way more then they are worth. they stay for sales for months but they refuse to lower their price. i'd like to keep it 75 or under to avoid smog. that sucks that they might move back the year for smog.

There are some other mechanical differences between 73-74 and the 75 models. The kingpins are different, the rear brakes and, as stated above the taillights, the radius arms were changed from forged to stamped steel.
All these are differences that keep the parts from interchanging but shouldn't be a consideration when buying the truck unless you're going to use it as a donor/parts truck.

1975 and older vehicles are holding a premium in this state for good reason. No smog to deal with, and they are in demand.

The price difference between a 1975 F-100 and a 1976 F-100 can be as much as $1500 in this area just because its a year older and no smog on the 1975. The 1976 can be in better condition, it don't matter. A 1976 worth a total of $500 due to condition, would be sold for $2000 if it was a 1975 instead. Crazy eh?

I do understand what you are saying though...

i paid 1400 for mine (68 f250) and its a base model but the body is better then most of the stuff i've seen so far. i've found a few that looked beat to hell with a laundry list of repairs and they were asking 2500+. there are a couple for a bout 4k and they are really nice but are just out of the price range i'm willing to pay.
