John some companys especially union(I know I gonna hear it) forbids it's drivers to check their oil or anything. I used to have a letter from roadway that stated their drivers were not qualified to check or add to the oil or water. They used to pay me good bucks to drive 20 miles to check and add a gallon of oil.
I have driven farther to plug in the pigtail between the truck and trailer because the driver was too lazy to see why he had no trailer lights.
If their drivers weren't qualified to do those things, how did they pass their CDL test? I know what you're saying about drivers being lazy. I run into them all the time. The quality of truck driver has dropped drastically over the 10 years I've been working on them.
They just didn't want them to touch them. with some co's it was the same with fuel, I have taken fuel out countless times and they switched at the terminal 25 miles away but the fuel man didn't get around to fueling them. The drivers didn't care they were paid hourly for the weight and didn't have to be on time for their switch. lol
You should see the difference in the last 32 years if you think the last 10 has changed.

I can imagine. I know some guys that are at the verge of retiring, and they know a lot about the trucks they drive, especially if they are owner/operators. Some on the other hand I'm surprised can find the seat.
I see alot of the dummies that run up and down I71/75 here in kentucky. I watched two of them a couple weeks ago playing chicken in traffic with each other. They were running between florence and Mt. zion rd. They would both swing out and leave a lane between them (4 lane road) then swing back and see who could get back to the middle lane first. They almost took out a couple cars in the process. They stopped real quick and about a mile down the road sat a boone county deputy running radar. I guess they heard about him on the radio and stopped in time.
