As you all know the States in a bind, they have no money and now face the hard fact of having to cut back. I read a artical yesterday about the state closing 13 state run parks and on the list are 3 lakes, Lyman lake up by St Johns will close feb 22nd, Roper lake by Safford will Close March 29th, and Alamo lake will be closed as of June 3rd 2010 Also on the list are Lost Dutchman state park, Picacho Peak state park, Tonto Natural Bridge, Ft Verde, Yuma Prison, and Red Rock in Sedona. Now my thinking is If these parks are in the red as far as the moneys they take in vs what they spend to keep them open, Go ahead and close them, but, I also think the dollars from Tourist will drop off and the Effects will snowball across the state, further hurting small business that depend on them for revenue. What do you think we should do about it?
do you have any links or what paper this was in? I had planned on spending some weekends at Alamo and would like more info. someone has to test out my Fathers new pontoon! might as well be me!
It's pretty crazy. I can only think of the big businesses which were lured to the Valley in the 80s and 90s with promises of low or non-existent taxes. We really could use that money now!
I agree, it's going to snowball and hurt everyone. What's next ... selling the parks to the highest bidder like they are ballparks? Will we have the Exxon Lake Alamo? Nike Red Rock State Park?
What's the latest on laying off cops and firefighters? That really concerns me the most, especially with people running around like the inhumane b@st@rds who shot & killed the Gilbert cop.
I saw a report on the news last night that the state is tossing around an idea to implement a 9 dollar fee on vehicle reg to keep the parks open and that fee would give residents a one year pass to all state parks.
With the MVD closures Cochise county is getting hit the hardiest. From where i am the closest office will be 40 mi away in Sierra Vista or 55 mi in Tucson Most of the offices being closed will be the rural ones. Phoenix lost 2 out of 12 tucson lost 2. it will realy suck to be in Ajo they are in the middle of nowhere.

I could live with this, what most don't realize is that to take your boat it will be $18.00 as you would need a pass for your truck, and boat!
Mohave lake had this, I ended up having to get one for the boat, the '77 chevy the '80 chevy the '79 dually and the '96 suburban! cause you just never know what you are going to tow the boat in with.
