Places to visit in New Mexico

My friend and I are taking a road trip from deep east texas out to NM from august 1st through the 7th.
So far on our list of stuff to check out we have..
1. Los Alamos National Labs (we probably cant get in but we were there!!)
2. White Sands
3. Trinity Site and the Missile Range Museum
4. Apache Point Observatory
5. NM Museum of Space History
6. International UFO Museum and Research Center
7. General Douglass L. McBride Museum
8. Route 66
9. Bottomless Lake and Bitter Lake State Parks

Is there anything else yall recommend? (Most of our intrests revolve around miliary history, firearms, space history etc. ). We could sure use the help. Thanks yall

-Chris

There are tons of things to see and plenty of spectacular scenery in NM. Here's a few suggestions that are in the same general area as some of the other things you mentioned. You can find more info about them online.

New Mexico Museum of Space History---Alamogordo
War Eagles Museum---Santa Teresa
Hubbard Museum of the American West---Ruidoso
Museum of the Horse---Ruidoso
There also the whole Billy The Kid stuff in Lincoln---basically the whole town of Lincoln
Carlsbad Caverns---Carlsbad

Have fun, enjoy your visit

You might look at visiting Ft. Sumner. By all means get to Lincoln. The Blue Hole in Santa Rosa is a great place to stop and rest.

Now if you are into Military History or are a veteran. I strongly advise that you visit the Vietnam Memorial in Angel Fire. I won't go into detail, but it is perhaps the greatest War Memorial I have visited. It is not huge and overimposing, just very touching.

While you are at it, stop by the National Cemetary here in Santa Fe.

Gate to Trinity site is open twice a year, on the first Sat in Apr and Oct, 8 am.
If your comming accross 380 toward I25, ya might want to stop in San Antonio,NM at Manny's for a green chili burger, better that the Owl Cafe, IMHO. Mannys is on the left (south) just past the one gas station.

If you go through Ruidoso, make sure to stop by the Flyin J Ranch. It's a Western Style show and dinner. Very family oriented and lots of fun. Hmm, think me and my son may have to make a trip up now that you got me thinkin on it.

Also, if you are near T or C (Truth or Consequences) stop by the Veterans Memorial Park. They have one of the traveling Vietnam Walls on permanent display there. Really nice to see and if you have time, stop in next door to visit the State Veterans Home. Better'n a hunnert vets, male and female live there and they love visitors. Reminds me again, I need to get over there too...

Oh yea! Manny's makes a great burger! Outshines the Owl Cafe hands down (the Owl was good about 30 years ago). You can also get a killer green chile cheeseburger at The Outpost bar in Carizzozo (its on Hwy 54 just south of the 4way on the plaza)

You cannot go into the Lab it's self. But there is a great museum. There is also a few other interesting places to look at in Los Alamos.
