Well this is very frustraiting. I did a 9 hour round trip today pulling our equipment trailer. Empty one way, and a truck utility box on it anohter way. Trailer weighs 5500 box maybe 1500. So maybe 7k max weight. Anyway. Thing ran like crap the whole trip. I am starting to run out of things to try out. I will make a list of things it could be, can any of you add or dismiss any on my list? I really am getting tired of this and am at a loss. I was going to try and borrow a code reader today, but forgot to swing in and get it.
Possibilities!
1. fuel pump (i thought these either worked or didn't)
2. Something stuck in the fuel system somewhere ( need schematic to start ripping that appart)
3, Bad fuel ( highly doubt it, been through about 8 tanks of fuel since it started running poorly.
4. air getting in the system ( no clue where)
5. injector or injectors going bad ( hope not and doubt it) 210k miles.
6. o ring somewhere in the oil system somewhere
7. ICP going bad,
8. HPOP going bad
9. IPR going bad,
10. Some sort of electronic problem
11. ICP mod or 120 IDM doing something weird.
Please add or rule out things for me. I need to get this thing running better. I am hooked to a trailer almost as I am with out one.
I noticed in my truck that it runs better a little better above a 1/4 tank. I wonder if air is getting in somewhere. While pulling a bit of a grade I also notice a bit of a cyclic power with the missing. Kinda like it wants to run good then gives up for a moment and the more I put my foot into it the worse the missing/shaking gets. I have a day off today and I am going to poke around in it.
I wonder if it is the opposite? Maybe try to open your fuel cap about 1/2 way through the tank and get some air inside the tank. Don't know if it will help or not but as the tank depletes air should be being added through the cap. Could be a bad cap.
Have you done any testing of the fuel & oil pressure under load yet ?...
no I don't have any way to do that. I grabbed my brother in laws code reader today, but it doesn't read anything when it is running. I will have to see if I can get a cheap fuel pressure gauge somewhere. I will have to jerry rig it into the cab.
I have had that problem and the rear tank runs out of diesel below quarter of a tank to one eight on flat ground, going to pull the tank in a week or two, on the pick up tube there is a filter and about 3" above it a by pass and it is only about one half inch in diameter so its restricted if thats the case, at ford dealer i go for parts has good diesel mechanics and was told that at the near top sending unit there a box that has two more filters and to punch them out, don't need them, the filter on bottoms part # is e5tz-9j306-ba
blue66tang95f150-take a look at the tags at the bottom of this page under loses, Axisprof post- loss of power and miss going down the road after it's warm, look at F350-6 site. may be it.
Well I finally figured it out. It is something do do with my 120volt IDM and my 16.6 ICP mod. I was driving home pulling a trailer one night and I was so sick and tired of it that I decided to pull over and start trying things. So the first thing I tried was i yanked my ICP mod. I took off down the road, down on power but running good!! So I then threw the 16.6 mod back in and it started doing it again. So then I yanked it back out, put in a 14.6 Mod, I made several different configurations a long time ago) and it ran great all the way to about 2900 and i can just barely feel a hesitation. Took that out and put a 10k in and runs great! So this is my theory. It all started happening around the time I put the 120 volt IDM in. So i think something changed just enough that it didnt like the 16.6 mod, but was ok the 14.6 and less. Just like when I tried a bunch of combos all they way up too 22k and the 16.6 was the one that had the most power and no hesitation. If i stuck the 22k in it would run like crap. So there it is. Now I should try my 100 volt idm and see if the 16.6 works good again.
Well i pulled my 10k mod lastnight and haven't had a chance to run it much yet but I am hoping that it will be better. Seems to start a bit better now. But I think I will have a miss until the injectors are replaced.
