I am getting ready to remove a cab from 79 f250 2wd and install it on 78 f250 4wd. Will I have to remove all sheetmetal forward of the cab (fenders and inner-fenders). Also interested in a energy suspension neoprene complete suspension mount set.
Any one used there product?
Can't say with 100% assurity, but, the fenders and inner liners are probably attached to the cab in much the same manner as they are on my '64... so I would think you are going to have to remove the front clip (hood and all) to do the cab swap..
I would tend to disagree with Bill. I have a 71 that is completely part. (the chassis is sitting on bricks on my garage by it self, that cab as on the other side of the garage, the engine is at the shop, etc.) If you take off the front fenders, you will then have the fender wells exposed. They are connected to the cab with eight bolts. The cab is connected to the chassis by fours bolts that go through the rubber cab mounts (you might want to get new mounts also) Of course it would be easier to take off the radiator core and fender wells as one unit unless the bed is off the truck.
Stainer, The easiest thing to do is remove the front clip all together. Two bolts at the rad support, a few at the cab and near the door for the fender, disconnect the wires, and with a bud take off the clip, and then the cab. You will have the parts out of the way. You will have to seperate the clip from the cab anyway. The other option is if the bed is removed you can leave the clip on and slide the cab back and off.
It'l take at least two big ole boys. There is no good place to grab to lift with out mechanical help. If you can get a come along or hoist working, you can lift and roll the chassis out from under it. While you have it up you need to prepair it for discarding. Set it on blocks or what ever, so you dont have to lift it again.
I recently did the same swap remove the front clip
in one piece (14 bolts). Take out the seat, you
have to cut the floor out over the transmission hump the imprint is there stay in approximately 1"
to bolt the 4x4 pan in place If the 2wd.has tilt
wheel you can use that columb if not you need to use the 4wd. We switched my cab with five of us
with the doors on it it is heavy and you wouldn't
waht to ruin your day by damaging the cab or loosing a finger. Do yourself a favor and buy a can of anti-sieze it realy works. Summit Racing
has the poly body-mounts you need
