I grew up thinking the 400 was just a worthless smog motor. I now have a 1978 Ranchero with a 400 in it and after doing some research I have come to the conclusion that the 351M/400 engines are actually very good motors that were just victims of their times. There is a good article under the "Technical Article" section of this website that gives a good overview.

When I was looking for truck engines, I thought that the 67-69 Tbirds with the 429 in it, were pretty cool too!
