Does brand matter for the 2 cycle oil? any recommendations, Also what is the benefit> Motor protection?
I don't buy the cheapest but during the winter, the selection seems to have diminished. Need to stock up in the summer. Regular biodiesel that you get from the pump, not used veggie oil, works well but isn't always available. DK does have extra benefits but may cost more.
The lubrication that these products have replaces what is lost when using ULSD as compared to LSD. Diesel fuel is used as a lubricant in diesel fuel systems and any loss of lubrication long term can have a detrimental effect on parts.

Injectors are what you want to worry about with our 7.3's
The fuel is so hard on them. so the benifit is all the lubrication you'll get with the 2cycle over other things becides soy diesel.

I use DK every now and then, but I dont get better results with startup.

You be the judge on what benifits you'll get.
Either way, you can still mix DK and 2cycle as well. Get the cetane boost, and the lubricity of 2cycle.
Think really of how good 2cycle does with harsh gasoline. the 2 cycle in the fuel has to lubricate all the really hard working parts in a 2cycle motor.
Now think of how much it would help a HEUI system actuating thousands of times an hour.
I generally suggest against bio due to the fact of how good it is at cleaning out your fuel system.
So all the sluddge from the diesel fuel oil will end up in your filter, and you'll have to do a few filter changes.
Ran regular ole diesel up to 56,000 then ran a 5% bio blend to the present(133,000) and no clogging of my filter, heard it does it but the fuel around here I noticed is pretty clean. If not DK my vote is for a 5% bio blend, really smoothed things up.
The Bosch test is a much better test than what Spicer put out. They were testing a fuel pump but I would think that if we extrapolated from that test, you MIGHT lose UP TO 10% wear with the regular diesel vs what the manufacturers want. So, basically, you might have to rebuild your injectors at 90% life if you used 460 HFFR score as a benchmark. If the injectors cost about 1200 to rebuild, that comes to roughly $120 you will save by bringing your score up with the snake oils. I think you are going to spend way more than $120 to save that $120. Is it worth it? Probably not.
I found a fuel station in PHX that has the regular old fashion diesel fuel. The truck feels like it has more smoother acceleration, and is getting a little better fuel mileage. Glad I stumbled across this thread b/c I was curious on what to do if anything about dealing with the ULSD in my older PSD? Very insightful thanks guys!
I did see a post in this thread about using green or red 2 stroke oil...Red diesel fuel smells completely different then green fuel. I could always tell a difference and i use to service heavy CAT machinery on jobsite. Just my $.02. If dot cant tell that they need to give up there position as fuel checker...
So 2 cycle oil will not hurt the engine at all? Is a quart per tank really needed. I have been using stanadyne because I got it for free but I am almost out and will have to buy something (if needed)

Mine were *a little* more than that (like x2). And I don't want to do the job again unless I absolutely have to. Add in my labor cost of $100/hr x ~6 hrs for the job. So a little better burn, plus a little better mileage, plus not having to do the job again anytime soon = a good deal for me...
