Coming to Phoenix soon! Good Salvage yards
I am coming out to Phoenix around March 2nd. I was wondering if there are some salvage yards who will have parts for a 76 Bronco. I also would like to look for some parts for a 51 ford f1 while I am out there. Maybe I could meet up with some FTE people while I am there as well!

The best known is Desert Valley Auto Parts (Home DVAP). They have two sites. The main site north of Phx sells only complete cars, but they let you wander around so it's a good time. The parts yard is the Casa Grande yard. I found several good rare pieces there for my trucks. I also went searching a few years ago for Hidden Valley Auto Parts and, after spending too much time lost, learned that they'd moved the yard and crushed most of the old cars/trucks. The new yard is ok, but not great.
If you are driving down there, and can take side trips, I'd recommend going through Alamogordo, NM. All along US 54 south of town are old yards that, at least a couple years ago, allowed me to wander around to my heart's content. Guy heaven. Stu

Oh sure, like we're gonna tell all you Yankees where the good stuff is, so you can haul it back to the Rust Belt?! and have it dissolve??
By all means if you guys are really going thru ABQ, let's organize a get together, there are about a dozen folks around here -- Bobby, Fish, me, DFFAY. You could also drop by Joe Abbin's Roadrunner Engineering and pick up a fresh blown flathead or two.

Some of the yards in Phoenix are hit or miss...Hidden Valley used to be a good place but I think they changed ownership a few years back and got a little big for their britches...I got a set of buckets for my '72 f-100 out of a late 70's Bronco in a north Phoenix scrap yard...There's a junkyard at the riverbottom and 7th ave that had a few old Fords and Broncos---even had a complete stepside bed out of an old Ford---but there was so much junk around it it was hard to tell what it was...
I live in the middle of Phoenix---sometimes you find stuff when you're not really looking for something specific...I just came back to Phoenix via Rte 54 in NM, loved seeing the vintage iron on the side of the road, although I couldn't find one owner who would part with anything...

When I finally tracked the new location down I learned that they'd lost their lease at the original site because of urban sprawl. And the guys at Casa Grande made it real clear they were p.o.'d at them for not having had a fire sale to allow other yards to buy the cars they weren't gonna keep. They must have crushed hundreds of old vehicles. The new yard when I was there was still being put together. Nothing I found of interest. Stu

Well I called DVAP and no luck on Bronco parts but welcomed me to stop by when I was out there for ford truck parts. I am going to look up the salvage yards soon and call them before i come.
Are there any in New Mexico by you Bobby that I should call or see them. I will have free time to drive where ever I need to.

Kevin,
Since I don't deal too often in Bronco parts I don't have a good feel for availability, etc...so just for grins I searched the San Diego CL auto parts listings using "bronco" and got quite a few hits. Not sure what you are in the market for but it seems like there is quite a variety of parts here. When i am looking for specific parts I will search Cl in various cities, just last Sunday I drove to Tucson to pickup an engine that I couldn't find here in SoCal and I got it at a fraction of the cost. Now that I am retired I have been thinking about a cross-country "CL crawl"...might be fun. Now about the wife....:~)

I am trying to decided whether to go with a fiberglass body or metal body. I would love to find an Arizona body to New Mexico that is in good shape and go metal. I would have $3500.00 plus in a fiberglass body so if I could find a metal body with a junk engine and rear end that some one was getting rid of that would be perfect.
