Found 8 inch nylon rod with plunger (plunger has o-ring attached) on one end of rod lying in bottom of transmission pan. Would like to know if this belongs or is a part of the transmission or perhaps someone left it behind. If it is part of the transmission.... how and where to reinstall it.
Hello Hollis,
Yes this was left behind. Durring assembly at the plant they put the engine and transmission into the frame before they put the fill/check tube onto the vehicle. This is a guide/plug for contaminates/ and due to labor they push it into the pan. Now it also means that your transmission "probably has never been serviced"
Good Luck,
GA
You are right on about the assembly line dipstick plug, but, you should'a messed with him just a little bit with a post like" Oh no,some kid must have stuck a lolli-pop down your dipstick tube!" JUST KIDDING!!!! The last time I heard of someone finding one was about ten years ago.Man,before that, you couldn't imagine the peoples concern when they found one after taking down the pan.Imagine if someone did already service the trans and actually put it back in! Wow, I can't type 'cause I'm giggling so hard!

Hey guys... don't laugh too hard. I keep mine handy just in case a use ever comes up for it. Maybe someday it will come in useful for some critical need!!
