C6 conversion help

I had and AOD and i went and got a C6 just outta good luck when getting a new transmission after mine quit. Well i got everything in almost ok but the gear selector doesn't work, the column is stuck in park and wont budge.I had to go for a test drive with my bud manually shifting through the gears for me. Any ideas on how to fix this problem.

If you are sure that the problem is in the column, then the lock release, or linkage is broken (happens alot).
To make sure the problem is in the column, look at the base of your steering column, and you will see a cable atached to an arm, (it should just pop off like it does at the trans), just remove that and see if you can shift by pushing/pulling the cable.
If it is in the column, you are going to have to drop the column to get access to the top of it, the shifter linkage runs on the top of the steering column. To replace it you will have to pull the steering wheel off.

If the lever on the side of the trans can be shifted out of park and through all the positions manually then the problem is a broken ign switch actuator in the steering column (assuming this is a pre `91 truck).

well when i took the test drive, we just unhooked one of the linkage next to the transmission and then the column would just move around freely

are you trying to hook the column up directly to the trans, or are you using the frame mounted bellcrank??
the proper linkage setup is rod from column to bellcrank, then rod from bellcrank to trans.

I think you forgot something with the linkage.
Also make sure that when you convert it that you go get the proper TV cable and transmission bracket for your year truck. You might have to go junk yard searching now. I did this in my 91 f150 several years ago and was able to get the bracket and cable new at the dealer. I'm sure they are discontinued by now. You have to have this.

RRanch, i think your right. on the old transmission there was a bar that went into the tranny and now that i have the C6 it sticks out in air. So i need to go to a junk yard and find a frame mount for the selector right?

Also i need to know where the vacume line goes from the transmission. i was told on the air throttle but im not sure where exactly

The vacuum pipe has to go to intake manifold vacuum so you may find a vacuum "tree" on the manifold with an unused port.

Any vacuum port that is directly off the intake manifold. The main port is the one to the brake booster and there should be another one supplying other vacuum operated devices. Just make sure that at idle you have full engine vacuum at the port. If you put your finger over it it should feel like it wants to pull your finger in and make the engine idle bad without your finger on it.
With no vacuum the C6 will not shift untill nearly full throttle.

C6 does not use TV cable.

C6 uses a kickdown rod.
it connects to the second lever in the middle of the shift lever on the trans.
