94 F150 5L with 127K. Everything normal till yesterday morning and this morning. When I tried to start the engine it would catch or fire, but would not run. After several tries I decided to push the accelerator down a little. Still would not start. Started pumping the accelerator and it started. Did not smooth out for maybe 2 seconds and then run normal if I controlled the idle speed. Had to hold the idle speed up for a minute or two and then everything normal. Runs and starts good rest of the day. No CEL or other indication of problem. Only recent work to the engine was a new IAC about 11 mos. ago. Any thoughts or help appreciated. Lon. Outside temp was about 32 F
Sounds like it was flooded.
Any time you put the throttle to the floor (pumping) while cranking you turn off the injectors and put extra air into the engine for starting a flooded engine.
Also pull off the vacuum hose to the FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator) and see if any fuel is in the hose or comes out of the nipple of the FPR when you turn the key off and on.
If it does you have a bad FPR.
It would not be an injector doing this unless it was stuck open and I do not think putting a cleaner in the fuel tank will help.
If you run it on straight injector cleaner without any fuel (gas) that may help one though.
Live in southwest Missouri near Springfield. We are to get 8 in. of snow tonight. Will check that FPR as soon as possible. Thanks for replies and help.
