Steering wheels

Does anyone know of a company out there that makes 16 and 17 inch custom wheels? I dont want a stock looking wheel, looking for something "different". Anyone use a wheel from a differnt car ? Feel free to post pics of your steering wheels.

I have an old CHrysler steering wheel, I think....came with the truck. Previous owner had a different steering column w/this wheel put in when he added power steering. I cover it with a Ford logo'ed steering wheel cover.

DANG! With those 'horns' on top of the wheel, I hope the owner is never in a head-on collision, cause if he was, he may impale himself on those!

I believe Grant makes steering wheels (requires additional mount/horn adapter kit). Check out Summit Racing as one source example.

Hey Cobra You know me to well.
Hey Bernie, I've never been in an accident. How many people have been in a head-on-collision and are still typing on this forum? I have shoulder straps and 4,000 LBS. of steel under me. If an accident like that ever happened, I'm sure the other people and their fibergalss car would get the worst of the deal.
I love when people make comments about "The driver of that truck is going to impail his face if he's in a head-on-collision" of course they never think of the carnage and mayhem 4,000 lbs. of steel can do. Every show I attend their's a minumum of 50 with the same comment. I feel safe as hell in my truck do you?

Gangstar, I assume you've got power steering? That thing would never work on my old truck in these hills, but then again, I get similar comments about my brody ****.

Gangstakr,
Easy, Dude... I was merely saying what (obviously now I know) others have said, that the steering wheel could likely pose a hazard if you were to be in an head-on accident. I hope you never get into an accident. I'm glad to hear you've got a shoulder harness installed and hopefully you use it. As far as the condition of "the other people" if involved in an accident, I don't wish them to be injured either.

The development of collapsible steering columns, padded dashes and ultimately air bags was for a single, simple reason - to make the cab safer to occupy in the event of an accident. Just like running with scissors, it's not a recommended nor safe practice. Did I install air bags in my truck? No. I am like you in that respect in that I'll take my chances as is........

Did I know if the 'horn' hazard had ever been pointed before? No.
Was I merely trying to be helpful in identifying a potential hazard that otherwise may have been overlooked? Yes.

I wish you safety on the road and may you continue to never have an incident.
BarnieTrk
P.S.
I have no idea how many folks on this forum have been in a head-on collision.
Yeah, I feel safe in my truck; more so after the addition of the dual reservoir brake master cylinder.
Thanks for asking.

I would more worry about impalement by the one piece steering box and shaft.....

Roberts steering is one cool F100 piece.

Me. You know how they tell you that you can't hold on if you're not wearing your seat belt. BS. Anything can be cone with enough determination.
The vehicle was totaled according to the insurance company but we glued all the pieces back together and drove it a few more years. The railroad crossing pole lost it's arm but the pole did remarkably well. It was a Ford Ranger. I hit that pole square in the middle of the grill. I have no clue how fast I was going at impact but I was doing about 40mph on that road. Looking back, it was kinda fun and exhilarating.

I too have been in a head on collision. I was going 45ish in a 72 Nova he was doing 50+ and decided to make a left into a tavern because the last one had cut him off. I held on and bent the wheel into the dash. My wrists still hurt when I abuse the airtools 25 years later.
As for your steering wheel put a Galaxy horn ring on it to dress it up.

Hey Dude I don't get mad or anything when people make their comments. Most of the time I'm within earshot of them all I could do is laugh. Yeah I got power steering power disc brakes IDIT steering column. And the most photographed steering wheel at any show I attend. Don't get me wrong, impailing my face on the steering wheel has crossed my mind. Just like getting t-boned by a big-rig doing 90 with no brakes. But I won't stay home because of fears. I hope everyone drives safe and enjoys their trucks to the fullest. Remember it's your truck do as you wish.

I cant remember but it seems a few months back one of our fellow slick drivers got rearended by a gal in a pontiac am or prix. The car slid under the slick and got absolutely totaled out. The slick needed a new bumper and brackets and a bit of the frame straightened.

I got a lap belt in mine and unless you hit head on at greater then 25mph I feel safe. I would like a set of shoulder belts for a bit more safety but I give me and mine a good chance of stepping away from a stiff accident due to that 4000# condom we will be wrapped in.
