Places to wheel?

Trying to find a place to wheel around the Victoria area. The nearest place I can come up with is Spring Creek in Houston. I used to go there every other weekend when I lived there, but since I moved back to My hometown, I need somewhere a little closer. Seams like this area is more into ATV's. If anyone knows of a good spot let me know.

If you hear anything, let me know.
Ever since they closed the Coleto Creek to vehicular access, there's hardly anywhere to go. My mom and dad have property that I go out on, but where they are is really flat... it's just a big cattle pasture!

I have big mud hole that covers an acre of land I'll hit up from time to time. That mud hole claimed my 5R55E in a Ranger I used to own back in '04.

What's up with Mud Buddys? I haven't been out there yet because it sounds like it's mostly for ATVs, just one big mud hole that's open for trucks sometimes? Ehh, I'd like a few trails and prefer not to totally swamp my truck!

Ha ha yeah, mud buddy's is just for the atv guys. I know what ya mean by wanting some trails. Mud is fun but, it doesn't provide the challenge of a good trail. Anyways, mud can be found almost anywhere,(backroads, ditches, power line road, cow pastures). If I ever find a good place I'll let ya know. Until then I'll just haver to start setting aside some time and money to make the trip up to spring creek.

Spring Creek is closed

Bad news my friend. Spring Creek is closed.

There is a much smaller ORV park in Rockdale called TireTrax, which is OK but quite small.

Wait, what?
I didn't realized that place closed down. What's that place in Rockdale like that you're talking about? Is it just a mudhole or are there some trails to hip up?

Texas has got to be the worst place to live if you like to go wheelin'. Much of the state is private property, and it seems like what few spots are available are getting closed down. What was the reason for Spring Creek's closing?

Spring Creek

From their web site:

THE PARK IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED.

SADLY, SPRING CREEK OFF ROAD PARK IS NOW CLOSED. HARRIS COUNTY HAS PRUCHASED THE PROPERTY THROUGH THE EMINENT DOMAIN PROCEDURE. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RIDE AT THE PARK. PLEASE DO NOT COME OUT, AS WE WILL HAVE TO DENY YOU ENTRY.

SPRING CREEK OFF ROAD PARK MAY BE CLOSED, BUT THE GROUP OF AVID OFFROADERS REMAINS!! PLEASE JOIN THE FORUMS TO GET THE LASTEST INFORMATION ON WHAT WE ARE DOING NEXT. INFO WILL BE POSTED AS IT BECOMES AVAILABLE.

TireTrax (TireTrax Offroad Park Home Page | Rockdale, TX) is small but has a few trails. I ran most of them twice in about 5 hours. I think it is a great place for shaking out the bugs in your rig. But it will not keep you busy all day.

I have heard about, but have not been to, a few places up east of Dallas. Barwell Mountain is one and Shilo Valley is another.

Timothy

EDIT: Forgot I have a YouTube of my trip to TireTrax... YouTube - Pinz Excursion in Texas

Wow that sux. I was planning on making a trip to spring creek next month. I know that most of the main trails out at spring creek belonged to the toll road autority anyway. I guess they just finally said enough is enough. Might have to check out this tire trax place instead. Thanks for the heads up.
