?? Horn / Blinker problem ??
While I have your attention.... the emergency flasher only works when the turn signal is in the left turn mode is on.
This maybe by design but thought I would ask. Thanks in advance!
Sounds like someone has been in the top of the column already. There should be a large spring under the button holding it up, that sounds like it is missing.
John
The horn button has a spring under it . Sounds like yours is missing. Push the button down and turn to release it.

With regards to the horn, recently tracked down the horn, and turn signal gremlins on my 65. Suggest start by adding items to your shopping list for reconditioning the horn assembly, does not cost much; couple horn contact brushes, contact brush insulator, and the plastic horn button/ring retainer. If the horn button does not depress wonder if the spring has been removed, or possibly the incorrect spring, believe there's a difference between the horn button and horn ring spring. Also, there's the plastic horn retainer, there's room for slight adjustment by tightening, or loosening combination of the 3 screws.
May want to start by first determine if horn is working, disconnect wire at the horn and using alligator clip, or piece of wire, connect one end to the connector on the horn and the other to the pos. side of batt., should get a blast. Next, can either check circuit at the horn relay which has 3 prongs, one from the batt. side of the start relay, another going to the horn, and the third from the steering column. Thus, push horn button completes circuit between the batt. and the horn. Not that knowledgeable with automotive electrical circuits but it would seem possible to jump a wire from batt side of horn relay to the horn on the 3 prong connector and should get a blast. I started by removing the horn ring making sure to use caution because there's a flimsy contact brush that rest against the horn ring and breaks easily. Check for voltage between contact brush and steering wheel shaft. If no voltage then steering wheel needs to be removed using a 'steering wheel puller'. There are 2 threaded bolt holes to screw the bolts into for the puller to attach to. Again, use caution because there's another flimsy brush that rest inside a housing on the turn signal switch. Should be able to get voltage between the brush and steering column shaft. Finally, during reassembly, take steel wool, or fine sandpaper and clean all surfaces the brushes come in contact with. Wipe the surfaces; lastly, if decide to replace the turn signal switch it's not necessary to cut the wires, the pins can be removed from the connector very easily. Anyhow,

When the horn ring or button is removed, there is a hole on the outside of steering wheel where the horn brush and insulator fit into.
People are (usually) unaware of this, remove the steering wheel, then these parts fall out. Guess what happens when they re-install the steering wheel. The horn doesn't work.
The brush has a thin copper wire inside it...it can snap in two pieces.

On the backside of the steering wheel is the C shaped steel canceling cam (Dave sez: trip arm
) used for the turn signal switch.IF the plastic cam on the switch itself is broken, the canceling cam will not cancel the turn signals.
You can buy the plastic cam by itself from an autoparts store, but it can be b!tch to replace.

BOYER FORD TRUCKS is 20 minutes away from me. Maybe you can anwser this.
My truck is a 65 Ford F250. It is a st tyake body / Flat bed. My thinking here is that it was a Goverment truck of some sort. Would the VIN number point to that in ome way?
It does not have a radio place in the dash, and the engine bay is an ugly orange color.

No.

The radio was an extra cost option on all these trucks, Standard & Custom Cabs, even on Rangers.
So...if the truck doesn't have one, that doesn't mean it was a state or Gov't vehicle.
Ugly orange color: What Cal-Trans (CA Dept. of Transportation) trucks are painted.
