I bought the truck nov. of 08 after I wrecked my 06. Grille, front bumper and the entire drivers side was damaged but we got that all fixed up. It's a 2007 F250 Lariat Outlaw edition with 43,XXX miles. I have a Edge Juice with the little monitor with all the nice gauges(isn't causing the problem, I've unhooked it and tried it) and the only other non stock edition is taking it from the 20 inch factory rims to a 17 rim of another stock size when the rim cracked. Another note, before I owned it, a woman had it, as the claw marks on the door handle show.
I must have got some bad fuel or something, as the last time I fueled I started having problems, I bought at the same place I always had and never seemed to have problems.
At first I thought I had transmission problems as it wouldn't shift, had no power and would die on me. Finally we came to the decision that it had jelled up on me, something I haven't had happen before. After switching from Powerservice additive to some howels that my uncle switched to after fighting with Jelling on his upper and lower tanks, we seemed to have got that worked out.
It however had a very rough idle and lacked power. I've ran it down to half a tank and now I can't really get it over 35, it's died on me at a idle. When I was at the bank it died on me backing out of my spot, after letting it set a bit, I was able to get it to the square a few blocks away like nothing had happened before it cut out on me again and having to have my uncle pull me back with a chain.
There's no smoke coming from it at all, my uncle discribes it as acting like a old V8 with two spark plug wires pulled. Says the exhaust doesn't smell like diesel, which I don't notice the exhaust smelling diffrent other then it not having that overpowering gagging effect.
All the gauges are running normal expect for the turbo which is making more trying to cover up for the power loss.
I've replaced the fuel filters which didn't help at all.
Now that I got my little mazda(rebadged ranger) running again, I'm going to go out of town to get some diesel and try to dilute the stuff in it down in the hopes that it isn't so much bigger problem.
turbo maybe? I dont know for sure, but it kinda sounds like what my truck was doing and after a new turbo I'm running great again...mine went from running great to almost not at all from the time I got to work and parked then went to go to lunch and it wouldn't run.
does the engine sound really loud and lots of boost but not going anywhere?
I started hearing my turbo making a grinding noise when I would shut the engine off for about a month before I finally got the dealer to replace it...
Check the Injector Control Pressure valve for oil residue at the connector. On your truck the ICP is located in the passenger side valve cover. If there is oil at the connector, you probably need to replace it. Unplug itwith the engine running, to see if the engine runs the same or worse. The symptons you describe are similar to a failed ICP.
