I just recently crashed my 97 f-350 powerstroke diesel, it had 140k but i have 95 F-superduty with a 460 gas with 250k. i bought the 97 back from insurance for $1300. But i want to pull the 460 out and put in my psd, both have 5spd manuals but the superduty is just 2wd and 97 is 4x4. what am i gonna get into and can anyone help me get into the right direction on how to do this. please dad wants to sell psd cause he thinks its to big of a job but i think it shouldnt be that bad since i have the donner truck
WELCOME TO FTE!!!
Thats a mighty tall order to fill!
How bad is the 97? It may be easier to take the 95 apart and and rebuild the 97. I would like to applaud you on buying the 97 back. They totaled my 97 (all I needed was a new bed) and I bought it back for 1,500. Back to the swap...it will be ALOT more then unbolting and bolting it back in. I would imagine MAJOR wiring if not the whole wiring harnesses. ANYWAY someone will help you here, you have come to the right place.
Ya i gotta say thats a big task, And im the one who thinks everything is possiable but im coming to relieze some things just are to much work to make it worth it, Im not sure if the crossmember is different from a gas to diesel but the motor would be the easy part to do its the wiring that would be the pain in the butt, It all depends were your truck was wrecked at, You can deff do it but it all boils down to is if you got the will to start it then accually finish it HA, If the 460 is good myswell leave it to it blows, Im sure you can sell the wrecked 350 for more then 1300 if you had to,
Where you located? I've swapped a psd and all the diesel stuff into a gasser and it's a job. All wiring, fuel lines, dash wiring and components, sending units, etc need to be changed. Core supports are different. Front crossmember is the same, except the 460 mounts to riveted on mounts that have to be cut off. If you are putting a 2wd trans behind the psd, then you need to use that trans wiring but will need a new pcm that's setup for a 2wd and not a 4x4.
Pretty much you have to strip the gasser cab and chassis down to nothing and then start over with the psd stuff.
BTW- It took me all summer to get it done. Worked nights and weekends for nearly 3 months to get it completed.
