Question 5" Muffler

My truck has a 5" straight pipe on it now and I am looking for a muffler to quiet it down some when towing. Do you guys think this will get the job done without killing performance?

Amazon.com: Heartthrob Velocity Series Performance Welded Muffler 5" center in/outAluminized - 5-1/2" x 11" oval body, 18" body length 23" overall length: Automotive

The trouble with those is MBRP runs about $250 and the Hushpower $210.

The Heartthrob is under $100. Just not sure if it will do the job. Mufflers for big rigs are cheap but too long.

It might be a good idea to look into a turndown tip. That would direct the sound down or even back depending on what angle you put it at.

You could even get one that bolts on and just stick it on when towing.

Out of curiosity.. why did u go w/ a 5 inch exhaust? I knew mine would be loud when towing.. but I likes the rumble!!

The truck already had the 5" straight pipe on when I bought it.

That's what I figured. I would think a turn down or that muffler would be your best bet.

Only possible issue w/ the muffler is that it could put off a nasty sound. You would have to run it to find out of course.

Good luck!

I guess I'll just have to try it. I was just worried that it might just be another fart can for a windup, er I mean tuner car.

I have this on my truck right now.
It BARELY fits, in fact, I had to dent one side of it so it wouldn't rub on the frame.
I have a crew cab F550 with the 183 inch wheelbase and it uses a lot of it.
Quiets the 5" exhaust right down, great for those long trips up the mountain pass pulling the 5th wheel.

Standard 5" Truck Muffler 10" Diameter

Other, smaller resonators if you want something that is shorter.

I have a Diamond Eye muffler i put on my truck when i had the system and ran it for a few days until i got enough motivation to get under my truck and take the muffler out... I had to cut 2" off the back of the muffler at the flange to weld it onto a piece of 5" pipe to use as a flange, however the normal 5"OD pipe will fit all the way inside the muffler.... it does quiet down the tone outside of the muffler. I got it sitting here let me know if you want it

I love the way my 5" sounds.
I like it best when it's straight piped, but it's a little loud for everyday driving, hence the muffler.
