And for those who wanted to know what the SPOUT connector does and why it must be removed to set the base timing...
The SPOUT (SPark OUTput) connector takes the timing control signal away from the computer. This forces the spark timing to be exactly as it is set with the distributor position. Think of the SPOUT connector as the vacuum advance on an older carburated vehicle. In order to set the timing properly you had to keep the manifold pressure from affecting the timing advance triggered by the vacuum line to the distributor. The SPOUT connector does the same thing but electronically since spark timing is no longer controlled by vacuum but by the ICM (Ignition Control Module).
Attempting to set timing without removing the SPOUT connector (or vacuum advance line on an older vehicle) will yield incorrect timing and cause all kinds of performance problems including knock, loss of power, pre-ignition, and failed spark plugs.
Keep in mind too, that setting the timing with the engine at full operating temperature is critical. Otherwise the changes in fuel/air ratio will cause an incorrect base timing setting as well.
it will be hard breaking the news to some douchebag kid on youtube with his 3 step goal of getting 30+ out of his bronco.
