im thinking about dropping a 460 into my new project. Ihave a good 360 now but im thinking a 460 would make better power and i can pair it up with a more modern trany.
I would give it a rebuild. New pistons, do a little head work, cam kit, manifold, carb, headers and big duals. 500hp is kinda my goal.
The truck its a 1970 f350 4x2. It will spend most of its time just being sport truck but ill need to depend on it to do some hauling. Im big on rock crawling so it will need to tow 6000lbs around all day.
So i guess im looking too ask what year block and heads woul be best and do the 6spd tranies from the new trucks mate to the 460 withought too much effort???
Without stroking it you wouldn't get 500hp. What comp ratio are you shooting for ? For what you are talking about building I'd guess you would want to run the cheep gas cause you are going to use a lot of it. For the heads, I'd find a set of D3's and work them over. You probably would want a set of dished pistons to keep the ratio down so you can run pump gas.
I guess I should have added in there that i dont know much about the 460 ci motors. I have always been into the sports car thing so this motor is new to me. I have built several 302s, 4.6's and 351m's but this is my first big block. To be honist im more at home in the turbo world.
What years do i find the D3's and how do i I.D. them???
There's a lot of information about 460's on a few dedicated forums. As being new to this site, I'm not sure how the admin's would like me posting a direct link , so just do a Google search for 460 ford forum and start reading. Most all of your questions have been asked before and the answers are already there for you.
