A quick background, the other day the motor quit while going down the road. Found out that the gear fell off the distributor shaft because the flexpin broke.
So I repaired the gear, and decided I would complete the duraspark 2 coversion (started a year ago by swapping ds2 box and coil) by installing a 1v Carter carb without all the feedback stuff on it.
Now truck won't start.
Motor does turn and I do have spark.
putting gas in cylinder and in carb throat doesn't help.
yes but the crank turns 2x the cam does, even though it said tdc #1 cylinder could be finishing the exhaust stroke.take #1 plug out and rotate crank with your finger over spark plug hole.you will feel air push your finger off the spark plug hole and line the timing marks up.this should be tdc on the compression stroke.
to check your gas lines to find out if there is pressure go old skool and get a jar and disconnect the fuel line at the carb then have someone crank the engine and see if it fills the 1 quart jar in about 10 sec. If you get little or no fuel check your fuel filters and then the fuel pump.
If it isn't firing after pouring fuel down the throat its a spark issue. Either the distributor is in wrong or the the DSII is wired wrong. Considering its blowing gas out the top of the carb, I'd pursue the distributor being 180 out.
Oh man, you guys are right. This morning I flipped the dist 180 degrees, put a little gas in carb, and she started right up. NICE. Looks like the dry gas line fixed itself.
The big question is, it doesn't seem like there is a lot of vacuum from the distributor port on the bottom of the dist. Any idea how much vacuum should be present there? Is there a way to increase vacuum?

??? That diaphragm on the distributor doesn't supply vacuum, you apply vacuum
to it, generally with what is known as a ported vacuum source, which means
there won't be much - if any - vacuum available at idle.
