Thumbs down took no notice of a noise, now oh dear!

hi, had a noise that sounded like a blowing exhaust manifold with a strange rattle that i heard once or twice but very for short bursts.
with ice and snow for the last 2 months and i have to work outside, i just pretended all was ok.
with no vacuum leaks, oil pressure spot-on i left it too long!
now using coolant and blowing oil from the valve cover filter ( i use a filter instead of it being piped back into the manifold cover as standard ).
hoping that a valve spring has broken and i have a crack in the heater matrics as i can smell coolant in the cab.
i have a stethoscope arriving shortly so again hope it helps find the sauce of the noise.
if it is the worst, head gaskets then it will have to be scrapped off as i have been on short time work this year and have no funds to put it right. so , oh dear.
i rebuilt the engine about 4 -5 years ago due to hydrolocking and used felpro gaskets thru out so hoped it would out last me.
thanks for listening and i will keep you all up dated. bokker.

oh bokker! that is bad news to hear.

Maybe it will be something simple and inexpensive. I hope so!
You have been a big help hear over the last few years. You deserve a bit of good luck. Hope good luck finds you!

Please keep us posted.

hi, thanks for your words Brian it means a lot.
did an oil and filter change today and it had coolant in it. so i have put K-seal in the coolant and i will monitor the coolant level. crossed fingers it will work for a while and give me time to start getting parts together. bokker.

hi all, its been a long haul with the weather and ill health but i finally got the engine back together.
the noise was the egr steel pipe had rotted thru on the back side so was not visible.
the coolant was indeed filling the engine full of water and crossing my fingers the latest lower manifold gasket will be the cure for ever.
finished the rebuild in the rain, no change there, it started instantly and seems quiet.
just hoping this is the end to my problem. thanks bokker.

thanks for the update.

If it weren't so bloody far from Alabama to the UK, I would have offered to lend a helping hand.

Hope it goes well for you bokker and the rebuild serves you well.
