Go check on any online parts store. The DRW has 3 1/2" brake shoes AND the drum is bigger around; 12 1/4" instead of 12".

I just did mine. I had to take the drum to a heavy duty machine shop because the regular auto machine shop couldn't turn anything over 12"
Not true.

If I go to a parts store to get shoes here I know none of their computers will tell them the right ones. I'm going to get new linings for mine next month and reline them myself. It's easy and a whole lot cheaper to do that way. Those 90 dollar extreme duty ones at Oreilleys can be done with the exact same linings my way for 15 bucks!

Most places won't turn these drums. I wouldn't even recommend letting a regular car garage do it. Find a place that actually relines clutches or brakes for big trucks and you will be a lot better off.
As Dan here has corrected the Previous poster.

The 3.5 is not "standard" but an option like RRanch stated.

If you go to the parts store and tell them what you have, it will list a 2 1/2 or a 3 inch rear pad for our truck, but will not state DRW or SRW for them.
I figured the DRW's would have bigger brakes, but its the other way around.
I think the 3 1/2s were for Utility trucks.

Explain what your talking about there Dan with the whole re-lining the drums.
You talking bout turning them down and throwing and pressing an insert into them to reuse the old drum? I might need to do that. Mine are toast.

I meant relining the shoes. That's easy. just drill out the rivets, sandblast and repaint the metal part, glue AND rivet on a new lining, bevel the edges on the belt sander and good to go. I did tons of them at tractor dealers. Clutches too.

Those 3.5 inchers are found on utility trucks also. Had to work on a few of those. I do think the 2.5 has more surface area due to the longer shoe and a bit more diameter on the drum. Id have to do the math but I''m sure they are more friction surface on that one.

You should get the report for your truck, that will tell you why you have 3 1/2's unless somebody upgraded them to that.
