So i recently purchaed a new(to me) 2007 f-250 with 20inch rims. It has the stock goodyear ats but they will soon need replacing. The truck has right at 80,000 miles and according to the previous owner this is it's second set of tires. I have been looking online and their are only a few tires that acutually come in that size (275/65/r20). 40,000 doesn't seem like a long time for a set of tires. I have been looking at the BFGoodwrench all terrains but they are $280 a peice compared to $197 for the goodyears. Is it worth the extra $300 for the BFGs or should I just stick with the goodyears?
Stick with Goodyear. Unless you're sure both sets have been Goodyear, he could have had cheap rubber on there from the factory that went quick. I had Continentals and they only lasted 25,000. I replaced them with Goodyear Silent Armors and I've put almost 60,000 miles on them and they've still got a lot of life left on them. They've done a their share of towing and off road miles too. Goodyear is good rubber! All Terrains wear funny too, you've got to rotate often.
goodyear ats are great in the rain and wet pavement. the bfg at ko's are better off road and have a stiffer side wall. ive had both brands of tires. if i was on pavement most of the time i would get the good year ats tires.
If you have the chance talk to someone with SPORT KING A/T. Bought a set for my 99 F-250 4x4 best damn tires I've ever owned. Excellent siping of mud and snow. Took it mud-bogging was able to go where the guys with all the aftermarket monster treads wewe getting stuck. Most awsome tires all around, very little road noise at highway speeds.
I run BFGs on my truck and my Jeep. Haven't had good luck with Goodyears. I've had several sets come on new vehicles (I know - not the best Goodyear) and had trouble with uneven wear and balancing. I rotate regularly and keep a close eye on tire ressure. BFGs best suit my type of use I guess.
Another Vote for BFG All-Terrains, my X is about to have it's third set put on and I wouldn't consider anything else. They hold the road well in the rain and get me through the sloppy stuff when the occasion arises.
My second choice would be Goodyear Silent Armor tires, never tried them, but hear alot of good about them.
Thanks for all the replys! I am leaning more towards the BFGs because I tow some heavy trailers and are looking for a sturdier tire that is also better offroad. Also the goodyears that are on the now have worn terrible and the previous owners claims to have rotated them. $280 for 1 tire just sounds really high. But anyway thanks again.
