I am looking at buying my first truck. The truck I am considering is a 1976 F100 with 351, automatic transmission. Engine replaced about 6 years ago from an old wreck. What issues should I be specifically exploring with this age and style of Ford truck? Thanks for any advice.
Red, As far as the model, nothing it's a Ford.
Nuff said on that.
As far as a truck, I'd look for rust holes underneight, (get down, look up)oil leaks, Radiator fluids, is the engine real dirty.
Basicly like any other vehicle that you might buy. Check the running gear, If it isn't running ruff, knockin, smoking etc. and the price is good, body's Ok then go for it.
Check the front cab mounts good. They are bad for rusting out and letting the cab drop down and sag. An easy check, look at the bottom of the front fenders if the gap is larger at the bottom between the fender and the door, than it is at the top,( below the cowl panel ) leave it setting where its at. But still get under it with a good light and look very good at everything! Nothing worse than getting burned on your first rig. Check it out GOOD. Its easy to pass things off as small issues, then after you have it a while they can grow very large very quickly. Speaking from the school of hard knocks! GOOD LUCK!
