I just got my truck BACK out of the tranny shop, had it rebuilt a month ago on warranty and it ended up being the master kit and an RV torque converter. well on day one it slipped and acted like it didnt want to shift out of 3rd gear, added a qt of fluid and it was ok. well last weekend hauling my brothers f-250 again, last time it was brakes, this time a locked up 351, it started flashing the overdrive light and wouldnt shift above third again. Well long story short the tranny shop replaced the solenoid pack and now i want to put it through its paces. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO DO SO BEST? ALSO, is the solenoid pack the same thing as the valve body controlling the shifting, maybe someone can school me on how our tranny operates there.
The solenoid pack is used by the PCM to control when the TC & coast clutch lock up and the shifts occur. The Accumulator VB sets the duration of the shifts and their firmness. Firmness is also controlled, to a certain extent, through the EPC (electronic pressure control) solenoid by the PCM.
Yes the solenoid pack is in the pan area beside the valve body,it tells the tranny when to shift,Gigger PS keep your eye on the fluid level to make sure it is not leeking somewhere, tranny's don't use up fluid like a motor uses oil sometimes.

Reason: add note
well I was wondering if the john wood valve body would be easily installable or if there is something else i can do with it to keep it shifting good. Do the solenoid packs short and mess up pretty often then?
I don't think it is a common problem. I haven't heard of a rash of failures. I feel a modded accumulator VB is a good investment and are fairly easy to do. Just a bit messy.

JW VB is an excellent upgrade. Last week I installed mine which I got from Clay, shifts sweet. I also went ahead before the VB, installed a Precision Stallion 3 disc converter and had Jody swap out my old rotary DP tuner for a DP 5 tuner with upgraded tunes to match the add ons. What a difference with this package. I drive my truck in the 80 setting and grin at each shift. My next add on is the external transmission filter set up which should be getting to me sometimes next week.
anyone have a picture of the valve body out of our trucks? isnt the valve body a bunch of solenoids? I know what the valve body is in a C-6, but thought i read something different bout the 4r100
