Hey guys, I have a question about the turbo. what the turbo is doing is that when the engine is warmed up and been driving it all day and then stop somewhere to get fuel or something to eat, when I go back in the truck after it has been setting for 20-30 mins and it is still somewhat warm and then when I start it up and drive, I notice the the power is nowhere near than it usually is and the boost stays low and the EGT guage goes up and also blows out a little smoke in the process. It will go on like that for about 5 mins and then it runs great, I did'nt do anything at all, just took my time then it clears up. It will also do the same thing if I start it up to warm up and leave it running up to 20-30 minutes sometimes while I am getting ready to leave work. If you let it run for 5 minutes and the temp gauge is still on or below "C" and it never does it at all, even all the way to normal temperature and cannot understand why it does that only when it is halfway warm when starting back up and it does that and when it idles from cold start-up too long it will do it as well. I already cleaned the EGR valve twice to solve the problem, but no success Does anybody know what it could be???? It just seems to be the same thing everytime the engine is at a certain temperature point from the warming up to the start-up from a quick stop at the same temperature point. Thanks, Chad
I have tried several times doing this and it works, but it keeps coming back everytime I shut it down then restart while engine is already warm and also from the long idling time from cold as well. I say that you are right, but why everytime on the money? It does'nt come and go when driving. I already got the gasket and o-rings to take the turbo out and get it cleaned up hopefully soon anyways. Thanks
What year model?
Have you ever replaced the EGR valve?
When you cleaned the EGR valve, did you clean the MAP sensor hose and the EBP tube (depending on your model year)?
2003 F-350, 6-speed, ext. cab, long bed, 4x4. I have cleaned the EGR valve twice in the past and everytime I took it out to clean it, it never looked like it needs cleaning though, just a fair amount of carbon build-up, nothing major though. The MAP sensor and the hose, I never touched them and the truck's got 104,500 miles.
My friend had the same thing happen on his 03 6.0L and it was under warranty, the dealer replaced the turbo and problem was solved. Don't know if this is exactly the same problem as yours but it sure sounds like it! Good luck getting it fixed.
