I run with a local VFD here in PA and we have a 1970 f-250 that was bought in 70 and is used as their brush fire unit. This is our pride and joy and our baby. Still has original paint, just a squeak under 7000 miles, YES under 7 thousand miles and still runs like a champ however, in the fire service safety is a huge thing and we have been proactive in keeping up with newer technology and safer equipment. After many years of trying we have finally received a federal grant to replace it however, we have to take it out of service never to be used in the fire service anywhere and i dont think we will keep it "just because" and keep paying the insurance on it.
So with all that jibberish done for background purpose my question for you collectors, Enthusiasts out there what do you think a truck like this would be worth? I'll try to include all the info but if there is something you want to know please ask and i will answer it.
1970 f-250 Super Sport?
360 cid with 4 speed tranny
4WD (new lockout hubs) they finally wore out
Milage, just under 7000
no power steering
no AC
No power anything really
Original paint
All fire related stuff will be removed
Line X custom color matched bedliner (not over the tops)
Guess thats it for now unless you have something??? Ive got more pics around somewhere...and the tires have been replaced since these were shot.
7-10 thousand is my guess. they will want to take the stuff off of the doors. depends what is left of the bed( holes and such). and rust anywhere? also most low mile trucks need new rubber everywhere, lines and such. this one was probably inside the whole time so may be ok.
Richmond98, Welcome to FTE. While you have a nice looking 40 year old 4wd truck, it's still a 40 year old truck. We are in a down economy and folk aren't running out to buy up old trucks, unless they are a deal. Other than nice shiny red paint that will have several unusual holes left in it after the apparatus is removed, and very low millage, you have a solid 40 year old base model truck.
Most FDs have a truck like that that they sell off, so look around at other local FDs to see who has sold one recently and what they got for it.
The best thing is to auction it off on a sat in early May, advertise it heavily. The buyers will come, and maybe you can get a deal if you are interested.
Thanks for the responses, its more then i got from another place which seemed to be filled with a bunch of rich stuck up snobs .

Only "holes" in the bed are the ones for the mounts to hold the tank in and if i remember correctly there are only 8. The lightbar has special mounts to the gutters so there are no holes in the roof at all. i replaced all the hoses, belts, plugs, plug wires, cap, rotar last spring before fire season started. We put $1350 in tires on it last summer, we hate driving it in the rain in fact if its outside and it starts raining its put inside immediately and as for snow...hahaha NEVER! it might have had a flake or two on it once but driven? no way. As for rust...Hmmmm, i've been in out up and down on this thing and i dont recall seeing any at all.

Well, there are couple of the guys that actually want to add on to the building just for this truck to sit in, you know, black/white checkerboard flooring, rotating stage spot lights, big glass doors entering the room hahaha yea and then there are other guys that being sad to see it go, dont really see a reason for it to stay.
I am in the airplane business and I bet many a small airport would love to have it for an emergency truck with extinguishers in the back. I would guess with the low milage and the fire related equipment 8K? Thats my guess but maybe I am way off.
Well the only thing I can add to the conversation is, I just had my '78 appraised and although it's a short bed, the appraisal came back at $11k. I thought it was too high, but that's what they came up with. So given the fact that i believe they over appraised mine, I'd say your truck in the condition it's in should be in the $7-9k range.
I can't read the emblem in the photo, but I think your truck is a Sport Custom or an Explorer...The mirrors and aluminum bedrails look to be part of the Explorer package, and the lower bright aluminum trim along with the wheel-well trim look like a sport custom...Does it say Explorer on the glovebox?...Don't know what the truck is worth but those bedrails are worthless pieces of junk that detract from it's value and you should remove them pronto and send them to me...Okay,...so I've been looking for bed rails for a few years....
I would hope the truck could somehow stay what it is---an unmolested survivor...I'd hate to see somebody turn it into a camouflaged, beat up hunting rig with low miles...That truck's part of American history...Good luck with it......
